Great discussion and examples overall, and I would recommend it to others. Only reason I did not give 5 is that I philosophically disagree with telling clients that therapy might result in them stuttering less. (See research from Courtney Byrd and others from the Blank Center if wondering more about this...) I do agree with having open honest conversations with clients on realistic goals and think this webinar offers many great examples!

I really appreciate the speaker's perspective on stuttering. I am so happy to hear how stuttering, therapy, and counseling have evolved over time. I still remember the first student I worked with who stuttered. The parents were shocked to hear that speech therapy would not "cure" stuttering. I couldn't believe that the student had made it to 7th grade without someone having a frank discussion with them about stuttering.

Mr. Coleman's presentation is engaging, informative, and, for me, deeply poignant. As a person so stuttered severely as a child but is now- thankfully- fluent to the point where people are incredulous when I reveal that in conversation, reading this content took me back to the intensive therapy I underwent to achieve the fluency I have today. All the social emotional and attitudinal elements he discusses were relevant and immensely effective in my treatment. An excellent course!

I appreciate it all the information presented in this lecture, and I would just like to do more research in this area, related to counseling, supporting a clients ability to navigate through some of these feelings that come up, without shutting them down, but also being proactive and productive with our time and with my words and support. I have more work to do in this area, this was a great start and aligns with what I am doing already, I just want more.

Your class makes me proud to be an SLP which is always a nice side benefit. I'm going to look for more of your CEU classes.

Direct communication style with compassion for the content being discussed. We are all aware as providers how difficult it can be to broach the emotions and negative thoughts that our clients hold as truth regarding their stutter. We can be compassionate while also directly disproving those thoughts. We are not "mean" for doing so. We are helping separate the feelings from the maladaptive behaviors.
