This is a presentation that would greatly benefit from the use of charts/graphs when describing research results that compare findings in dual-language speakers, as well as videos or recordings of speakers demonstrating typical language/cultural characteristics of different languages. It would be worth extending the class time to 90 minutes if examples were provided.

It was helpful to learn how one's voice can be perceived differently when speaking one language from another. This makes it even more critical to understand your client's desire when it comes to seeking speech therapy for transgender voice.

The content is good food for thought, but its framework, while laying a direction and a common sense approach we should have with these populations, is so specific that the skills it advocates for seems more in line with academic studies, activist work for change, and for use with individuals in private therapy. I am a public school therapist, and while I will certainly integrate the thinking here into my personal philosophy, I have little leverage to advocate for it in practice.

There was too much emphasis on the literature which only served to reiterate the author’s premise and not enough emphasis on approaches to actually treat transgender, bilingual clients. It did serve the purpose of increasing clinician awareness that they may occasionally encounter a bilingual transgender client and should inquire if they would like to be treated in both languages. the actual differences presented in the literature may not be that significant in the second language.

Although this wasn't explicitly discussed and I am not an expert on research in this field, I am not convinced at this point in affirming a minor's decision to change their gender and therefore their voice. I think SLPs should have a right to deny services in the case of a minor. Nonetheless, I thought the presentation was very interesting.

I have been working with Transgender Voice, started in the late 1970's in Los Angeles. There are voice and communication nuances that I address but feel the information presented by Dr. Perez added greatly to my knowledge. I especially liked seeing Dr. Perez's hand movements during her presentation which further presents evidence that bilingual speakers have a different way of communicating that MUST always be considered with working with bilingual transgender voice clients. Thank you!

As an SLP and clinical instructor who introduces graduate students to gender affirming voice and communication work, I found this course added considerably to the information I'm able to provide students. Also I think some of these ideas translate fully to working with clients who have voice disorders, and that is an area where many of our "old standard" interventions can fall a bit short of meeting bilingual / bicultural client needs. Thanks for offering such a useful course!

I was very interested in this topic, however the presentation style fell short. Most of it was statistical in nature; presenter just reading stats word for word from her handouts; some actual case study examples would have been helpful, more graphic/chart type information rather than just percentages from various studies. question and answer portion was the most interesting part of the lecture
