The style was elementary, the "we" language even when speaking of stuttering and stutterers- she isn't a stutterer, it is not about her. It seemed like day one of undergrad intro to Stuttering. Insulting to my experience. I am thankful to not have to endure one of her courses as a student.

I really loved this course and I appreciate Dr. Arnold's stutter-affirming approach to treat stuttering. I think it is unfortunate how many SLPs were taught to focus on modifying or "fixing" or preventing the stutter for our clients, when we should instead be empowering PWS with the knowledge that they are capable of anything and everything even with a stutter. We need to instill in them the self-advocacy and the tools to live like any other person so that their stutter does not hold them back.

This course was great because it focused on helping people who stutter feel confident and communicate effectively, not just on making their speech perfectly fluent. It highlighted the importance of setting goals together with the client, reducing fear of speaking, and building a strong support system. The course also provided strategies to help individuals feel more comfortable talking in everyday situations, like school, work, or social settings.

This course was very engaging and the content interesting to me. What will stay with me is the part about as clinicians we mainly focus on goals as what we want to accomplish and sometimes forget about what the client wants, and we should integrate that thought process into how we create goals.
