The course provided a thorough overview of APD, including assessment tools and interventions. The instructor was knowledgeable and passionate, but at times relied on anecdote, absolutist statements, and self-reference. A more balanced, collaborative tone and nuanced discussion of classroom strategies would improve learner engagement.

This course frequently used outdated articles (often from the 1990’s) and did not account for low socio-economic status when referencing tools to support APD clients.

I needed a refresher on this topic. I’ve known through years as an SLP that APD is a valid diagnosis, yet finding an audiologist to assess it is difficult in our area. Cost and transportation are major barriers for families, and schools can’t always cover testing. I also learned that a test labeled “auditory processing” does not always measure true APD.

Working in the schools, it is very important to be able to identify and support our students with APD. These students are easily missed and labeled otherwise with many accommodations provided, but not always successful. I enjoyed the tools that were provided in this training.

This presentation validated the need for Audiologists to play a crucial role when discussing Auditory Processing Disorder. There's often "turf wars" in regards to what specialists are responsible for what area of assessments and their responsibilities in the process. The confusion stems from the delineation of roles between medical professionals and educators in school systems.

Somewhat condescending tone of instructor. For example I don't think anyone in this field needs to be told "This is a thing" . We know. Also don't think its appropriate that several times instructor said..."just play around with it, see how you like it". You don't give an assessment to a child to "play around with it" . Several comments that seemed unprofessional.

I often suspected the auditory processing disorders when dealing with the elementary school age child and made referrals to the TEAM and audiologist, it was difficult for the follow-up. Now that I see children at the 18 months - 3 year level, making early referrals and talking to the parents to follow up on assessment, is just as difficult when the child is spontaneously using sentences with clarity, however can not answer questions or needs continuous repetition to learn a new concept.

I love the speakers authentic presence, clear, goals, and objectives with clear and easy to understand explanations with real world examples. I absolutely loved that she started with “It’s a thing,” because it speaks to the realities that clinicians face in the real world where there is a doubt for something that we know to be very, very real and true for our patients and our students. I also love that she gave us real world applications and tools. Love her!!

It showed the necessity for speech in noise testing in addition to pure tone for all children where listening in the classroom is a concern. It gave concrete resources for assessment and intervention.
