This course provided me with valuable information in regards to using AAC with a child whom is autistic. I learned that using high tech is better than low tech while implementing AAC, along with using more symbols than less. I think that the parent input form is excellent. I have always found out what the child's interest are before assessment and treatment, but I am going to use the form provided. The suggestions for goal writing is fantastic!

I loved that this course focuses on the importance of making connections with your autistic kiddos for AT LEAST a month before targeting goals. I believe and have seen with lots of my autistic patients that they are more willing to "work" during speech if I have established a relationship with them first. Several therapists only spend 1-2 sessions on making the connection/building rapport with their autistic kiddo, so I love how Kelly emphasizes the importance of spending a month on this.

Material was well organized and easy to follow. Though I am not a big fan of ABA, the instructor was very diplomatic about how to handle working with behavioral therapists. Question 5 on the exam is incorrectly graded. Answer should be A. Kelly specifically stated we should refrain from using percentage accuracy in AAC therapy goals.

I loved: the importance of establishing rapport. It is the most important tool in our toolboxthe research presented on introducing limited vocabulary versus core vocabulary, specifically rationalizing why one should move to core vocabulary as soon as possible.the importance of using a total communication approach.focusing on the number of initiations the student demonstrates with the AAC
