Learned about a new app. The guest speaker seemed very genuine.Sometimes this presenter feels like she is using the platform to talk more about herself rather than her guests. Otherwise, she has good topics to present on.

I really enjoyed listening to the perspective of an autistic individual. I loved hearing about the different ways that autistic individuals prefer to communicate and learning about the importance of listening to the individual's preferences of whether or not they like to be referred to as "person first" or not in conversation.

This course was excellent because it promoted a respectful and inclusive view of communication for autistic adults. It valued multiple communication modalities, emphasized shared interests as a way to build connection, and highlighted the importance of listening to and respecting each person’s identity and preferences. The practical examples made the content clear and applicable.

This course was more for adult verbal clients who can address online websites like Discord. The lesson I learned was to give everyone a platform to speak about Autism, be it parents, teachers, SLPs, and family members. We should always address elevating self-advocating for our students and parents. I believe that schools should have more of this. We as SLPs work with these students, but it is precious to hear a parent tell their struggle and what resources and AAC items were helpful.

I liked this course because I didn't know about Discord being a platform used to run a social group for autistic individuals. I learned a lot through the audio form versus reading it. I liked hearing the clear cut answers of the questions she was asking. I also have been stuck with knowing to use first person or autistic person d/t different preferences so I am more confident after this course.
