Accurately assessing students with Autism is an ongoing issue. This course has encouraged me to delve deeper into the VBMAPP. I already use the Functional Communication Profile which I find provides good information. Most of my students with Autism are unable to attend to formal assessments, which would not be a true representation of what they can do. I found an app for VBMAPP which I plan to explore.

This podcast provided very helpful information for assessing children with autism. I will definitely be looking at these assessment tools and use the suggestions provided in this course. I too, am old school, and jot down notes when I am observing during the assessment process versus using new modern methods....so, the presenter and I think alike and affirms that my "old-school" methods are still relevant. With respect, I feel this was really just marketing the VB-MAPP which I am not familiar with, and the speaker's own courses that I now have to go and find in order to see the screener. Pretty common sense info, and I didn't really get a lot of new info out of that I can use right away. I don't like to be critical, this was valid basic info that should be included in an assessment, but not specific enough to be of great value to me. I will go look at tools mentioned.
