Good background information on differentiating between disfluency types! I like that a treatment plan is formed- that you encourage improving the verbal communication skills and not just "accept and embrace" your communication disorder. With stuttering, dissociation is often anticipatory anxiety. I have helped many children with Atypical disfluency who have been teased and developed social anxiety common with stuttering. A mirror can help the client integrate strategies in real time.

That was amazing information! Two of my own kids had rime-repetition dysfluencies in elementary school, and I’ve seen it several times in clients. Mine are both neurodivergent (twins), and they could each hear their brother’s dysfluencies but not their own. Similar to the question asked at the end, I’ve had many clients with breath issues that disrupt speech, mostly also ND, and with significant discrepancies in the strength/weakness profile.

I enjoyed this course. It was very informative. Learning about Atypical Disfluency was completely new to me. It is more complicated than to assess than what we typically consider stuttering. I also learned that the treatment approach can be completely indirect, depending on the student and even a language-based intervention. This was unexpected for me. I appreciate the new perspective on treating disfluencies.

The presenter's manner of speaking made it easy to follow along with what she was saying. The presentation was well organized. I like how realistic her expectations were for what we can do as clinician's. The only thing I would suggest is either being more descriptive about the treatment strategies or re-enactments or videos of the treatment. It was a little hard to understand how to do some of the treatments without seeing the treatment take place.
