This course was informative when using AAC device for meeting goals for clients. Its a step by step course that helps students meet goals in a specific time frame. Also, when clients/students progress is determined by meeting their goal, then you move on to the next communicator goal to that generate even more responses from the student. I learn that each goal is to generate responses and to help them learn to use the rules of language skills to communicate.

I was very disappointed in the course overall. Aside from the fact that this felt as though it was a sales pitch for the presenters TPT packets, I did not feel as though any of this information was research based. It was also very ableist (discussing what an individual may or may not be able to do based on early "testing") and discussed treating communication in a very verbal behaviorist approach. I would not recommend this course.

The charts breaking down each level of communicator with appropriate goal areas will be a helpful tool! I did feel as though this was more of an introductory, rather than an intermediate level course. Also, reframing vocabulary such as "limits" and "limitations" to perhaps "challenges" or "needs" would create a more optimistic view of emerging and functional AAC communicators.

The presenters had stated that topic maintenance overall and especially through several turns is very difficult. One of the social goals suggested for a generative intermediate communicator was to maintain a conversational topic for 2-3 turns. The last examination question asked for the examinee to choose which goal would be appropriate for a generative intermediate communicator; the correct choice was to maintain a conversational topic for 4-5 turns - that seems high for intermediate.
