In my work with people living with PPAOS and nfvPPA, this information is helpful when determining what treatment interventions may be the most appropriate for the client. Because aphasia and dysarthria can also be present in the early stages or emerge over time as the disease spreads, it's important for SLPs to be aware of the known differences in the presentation of these symptoms. Reporting the emergence of these symptoms can also be important to share with the client's neurologist.

This course confirmed what I was taught many years ago and that is AOS remains difficult to differentially diagnose. I am currently treating a patient who has features of AOS and aphasia. Based on her speech characteristics, I was reassured that my diagnosis of AOS with aphasia was confirmed. I will use the information to assist me in providing a diagnosis for patients in the future.

It presented so much information that I was not familiar with, or had not thought of, when completing differential diagnosis between AOS, APP, and dysarthria. The only reason I marked "moderately confident" is because it highlighted how much I feel there is to learn on the subject.

It is obvious the presenter has a wealth of information, advanced certification, and experience pertinent to AOS, but is clear there is much overlap and interplay of AOS with aphasia and dysarthria characteristics when a person presents with this type of verbal communication disorder. It seemed a little confusing to me, but my takeaway is to recognize rarely is AOS a stand-alone diagnosis.
