I am retired and it relates to my personal life with adult children at the present time. Thank you for the reminders that I needed. I have appreciated my career in Speech-Language-Hearing. All education is helpful and inspiring. I have shared the quotes with family already. I would take more CEUs from this instructor.

I did not like the question about getting Dads to therapy. I thought that was very outdated. I also don't think it represents a pluralistic society. I have grandparents coming to therapy with their grandchildren just as often as I have parents. I think there also needs to be a discussion about the role of shame in many cultures about having a disabled child.

For the 1st time ever when taking a CEU course, I am angry. While I passed the exam, I found myself choosing answers based upon for what I thought the presenter was looking rather than what was factual. The questions were very poorly constructed. There was more than one response for multiple questions that was accurate or true. Some of the content was thus not accurate. What made this course poor is reflected in the following question from the exam, found in "Additional Comments:"

The author shared very useful information regarding appropriate ways to counsel families. As a result, I realized that I should be mindful of how I encourage families through my words when sharing uncomfortable information with them. I show validation by acknowledging their feelings instead of affirming them by saying, "It will all work out." I could replace that phrase by saying, "I can imagine this his challenging to hear."
