The discussion and "warm-up" at the beginning of the lecture was very engaging to reflect on our own personal biases. I appreciated the video examples of the puppet show demonstrating how to educate young children.

I feel that the purpose of the presentation was good but I do think that the puppetry portion was outdated and is missing a key factor of WHY it’s important to respond appropriately. Additionally It’s difficult for me to believe that one presentation on diversity is going to cause significant change. It needs to be frequent, repetitive exposure and education for it to actually support change.

This is a super important topic for understanding how to talk to kids about differences. It's also great for self-reflection and our own knee jerk reactions as adults.

I felt this course could have been shortened, and none of the value taken away, if the first portion involving the Muslim, drug addict, and homosexual couple had been deleted. This was supposed to be a course about sparing kids with CD pain of social stigma, bullying, etc. The description said nothing about it being a DEI courseor means of promoting a WOKE political agenda, and I feel like the speaker subtly tried to do that. Can we not do anything w/o involving political platforms these days?

The presenter included samples of the Inter ACT program and her own experiences in helping to improve attitudes and behaviors towards children who stutter. The information from research studies was well summarized and provided a backing for all the recommendations that she provided.

This course was excellent because it clearly explained how attitudes and bias toward children with communication disorders develop and how early intervention can make a meaningful difference. The content was evidence based and practical, offering effective strategies for attitude change and inclusion in real educational and clinical settings. The focus on prevention, awareness, and empowering children to respond positively made the course especially valuable.

This is an incredibly important topic. I appreciate you making it very explicit that YES, it is the SLP's job to intervene with peers who are showing biases towards those with communication disorders and that the way to deal with peer bullying/ negative attitudes isn't to try to change the child being bullied.

I do not believe enough time is spent in explaining to young children the diverse conditions affecting their friends and classmates. I have noticed an inherent impatience and annoyance with children who are different. I appreciate this course because it does not step away from the need to take the time to teach these children some understanding and empathy, even if it is not a goal.

This is an excellent topic to address in our field that is not addressed enough. In my years of experience I have worked with preschoolers, school age, middle school, high school students and adults. I have rarely, if ever, experienced biases at the preschool age. I observed negative attitudes mostly at grades 4-7. I observed some prejudice at the Elementary age. Parents need to be educated about this. Teachers should stop saying, "You HAVE to go to speech now".

The speaker has done research and understands the difficulty that people with communication disorders face. She is sensitive towards those with disorders as well as towards those who don't understand and seeks to bring harmony amongst all, teaching children at an early age on accepting others as they are and reducing fear driven behaviors.
