This is Part 3 of a three-part series. This course will show 3 separate FEES examinations with patients demonstrating severe dysphagia, all with significant aspiration. Scoring/interpretation of FEES will be reviewed and recommendations for oral vs. alternative feeding will be discussed.

- After this course, participants will be able to identify 3 appropriate candidates for a FEES exam.
- After this course, participants will be able to correctly identify penetration and residue and rate correctly using rating scales provided, after watching 3 FEES examinations.
- After this course, participants will be able to describe how to formulate a treatment plan/recommendations based on results of 3 FEES examinations.
- After this course, participants will be able to identify appropriate compensatory strategies for premature spillage, pyriform residue, and frank aspiration.

I would like to see a few individual still shots of the FEES so that you could better point out where aspiration is occurring. The live shot is so quick. I especially enjoyed how you explained perfect is not the goal of TX and that functional can look like a lot of different gradations of swallowing.

The overview of the anatomy was extremely helpful to enhance my understanding of the structures of the larynx for interpreting locations of residue in hypopharynx and the outline of the laryngeal vestibule for distinguishing between penetration and aspiration. It was especially beneficial to see (and hear) the visuals of how pts took both solids and liquids and how they performed during cued compensatory strategies. The documentation of findings was excellent. Great course!!

The course was good. I would like more of a deep dive into interpretation for an advanced course. I would like to compare my judgement of pathophysiology (not just pen/asp/residue) but WHY these weres observed (i.e., delay, reduced epiglotic inversion, or pharyngeal constriction, etc.) with the instructor's- watching swallows together and making judgements about how the structures look and move as contributing to the dysfunction or function and then using that to direct therapy-maybe level IV?

The exam questions didn't always match the actual content of the course. Two of them had to be clarified at the end, and although I replayed and replayed the videos to be sure of the correct multiple choice answer, it wasn't always there. Maybe it would have been obvious to clinicians more experienced in dysphagia but it wasn't to me. In any case, as the third course in the series on FEES, this did help draw all the information together and deepen my understanding overall. I am glad I took it.

Good content but somehwat disorganized presentation. Some slides were not correct (e.g. the presented image did not align with labels and presenter was surprised as well). Sometimes, the result post-treatment was presented early and other times late - this resulted in an inconsistent learner experience of trying to understand/make theories/emulate decision-making.

I hate to say it, but in contrast to previous two levels presented, this Third Level in this series was lacking in specific information such as determining most effective strategies to use relative to dysfunction viewed during FEES. The presenter rarely provided consistent strategy answers in response to questions. She did not provide education or even preview of therapeutic interventions such as myofascial release, therabite, or flexitouch. Instructed viewers to google them.

All videos are reviewed in real time, and therefore, episodes of aspiration are missed. No distinction is made between premature spillage (loss of bolus control) and delayed initiation of the pharyngeal swallow; therefore, treatment recommendations are not appropriate. Furthermore, "premature spillage" seldom, if ever, occurs with solid food, and did not happen in the video with solid food. The questions on the exam and choice of answers are not clear and are not clearly related to the material that was presented.

For a level 3 course I was hoping to see less about her actual work and more about atypical or pathologic anatomy. Examples of findings that are atypical, things you may see that you should refer out for ENT or further investigation. I feel that at an advanced level that most of this content was not beyond what I would typically see and didn't really learn anything "to the next level". Advanced terminology would have been helpful as well.
