I found the strategies presented very valuable. While some of them may seem like common sense, clinicians sometimes forget to consider how important and effective they can be. I also liked the suggestion to have someone else feed you so you can experience what that is like.

I was curious about being able to lock a wheelchair in a SNF setting as this has been a "state tag". I have also been told food combining is a state tag in a SNF setting.

I am actually retired as an SLP and am taking care of my 98 year old mother at this time in my home. This information was extremely helpful to me regarding feeding. Mom is completely bed bound. She has been refusing to eat, and it is due to anxiety, depression, UTI's, and constipation. This course has given me great information on encouraging her to eat well. I plan on working some when the time comes, and this has inspired me to possible seek a job with the elderly population.

Presentation was cohesive. I really like the idea of a volunteer organization coming in to provide healthy models. What a great work-around! I remember being a grad student and wanting to eat a snack alongside my client to provide such modeling, but was told that it's seen as a sanitation issue. The being awake for 30 minutes before meals is also a good thing to consider.
