a break down in the differences between strong willed child and child with oppositional defiant disorder. truly making it clear in what the differences are. This course helped me reflect on some of the clients I work with and how I can collaborate with my supervisors, parents I work with and other team members who also work with my client to refer them to the right sources.

The explanation and examples of many factors was a good foundation for understanding the need behind the behavior, and when behaviors would not be considered for the diagnosis. The snapshot of client behaviors and needs with the goals of connection and correction is similar to what I learned to prepare to adopt teenagers- Trust Based Relational Intervention.

I am an early intervention speech therapist. Yes, they are littles. Yes, they are developing independence. Yes, I understand all of that. But - there is the level of the refusals, the defiance and then there are the siblings, which display similar conduct. I have battled with not understanding and feeling an active dislike for my clients. I am now working on understanding, acceptance and loving on them. This was very helpful.

This is such a relevant topic. It is tough to differentiate from ODD and 'strong-willed' children. I find them difficult to work with as hard as I try I find they lead to burnout and it is discouraging when you try your best and they are nasty and don't make progress you know they are capable of.

I learned the difference between a strong willed child and ODD! ODD is very complex and it is important to try to understand why the child is having the behavior outbursts or problems in a non accusatory way. It is interesting that co-connection and co-regulation can help with ODD. Also understanding if it is deliberate or fight/flight response so you know how to best approach it. Children with ODD can use help with developing problem solving skills, receptive and/or expressive skills, life skil
