It is very nice to have resources to further learn from professionals who are experienced in counseling. In ALF and outpatient settings I find I complete a significant amount of counseling as part of therapy. Thanks for the insight.

As a psychotherapist, I didn't learn as much as I had hoped to, and I didn't necessarily agree with this author's tenets, or with those of Audrey Holland and David Luterman. But it was good to get another's perspective(s).

Seemed to be a reflection on the presenters prior contact with Luterman and Holland. His question/answer about an SLP addressing depressive symptoms and the matching discussion in the course seemed lacking in view of the possible seriousness of "depressive symptoms". He did not clarify the need to refer to possibly a clinical psychologist, etc. if depressive symptoms warranted and he did not clarify what "warranted" looks like.

It affirmed that counseling is within our scope of practice, but I feel the course lacked direction. I don't feel more confident to counsel clients than I did previously.

Some things were unclear, e.g. the defense mechanisms that may be exhibited by a client with a communication disorder. The text said these would not be addressed, yet there was an exam question about it. The text also said that encouraging positive "self talk" may be helpful for a client feeling sad about his/her communication problems. "Sad" is not the same as "depression," which, as was stated, is not within our scope of practice. I DO feel that clients with depressive symptoms should be referred for medical assessment, yet my answer was marked as incorrect.

The text version of this course needs to have some of the slides inserted into it, because it is obvious that at points the speaker is talking about information on the slide, which is not shared with the reader of the text-based version of this class. At least one questions ("Which defense mechanisms...") requires you to have seen the slide before answering the question. It would be easier if some slides were input into the lesson, as they are in other courses.
