This brings me back to one of the first patients I ever worked with in Bto3, many years ago. At that time they were attempting to support the patient with steroids and blood transfusions. At that time the team wasn't educated about sickle cell, but the hematology department at Children's of MN helped support us. I appreciate the new information provided today during this course.

This is an essential course for speech pathologists! I did have experience with one child who was not on my caseload at a clinic. I wish I had this knowledge then. I e been exposed to virtually everything being an acute care therapist, however I can't recall ever having a patient seen because of complications with Sickle cell. I learned a lot here and the speaker did a great job of highlighting the most important information that we as therapist need to know clinically to help our patients.

I remember having a patient many years ago with sickle cell disease, a young woman who had had a series of strokes, and was always very tired. This course gave me a much greater understanding of her disease. I look forward to the second part of this course. The instructor was excellent!

Excellent.... I realized how much I truly didn't know. I have had a relative and a family friend who both suffered with the disease. There were always multiple hospitalizations, but I had no idea how much pain they were in. The family friend lived to be in her 80s.... and the relative passed away in her 50s.Thank you for sharing this today.

I believe I was like the majority and knew of Sickle Cell Disease and how it is primarily found in African Americans, but I did not know the extent of the health problems it can and likely will bring. This course refreshed the minimal that I already knew and taught me so much more new information that I had no prior knowledge about. What a terrible disease to live with. I am glad to have a new perspective on the conditions those living with the disease are experiencing.

I really appreciated hearing about the topic of Sickle Cell Disease. This is my first exposure to training on this topic and it was very enlightening. The speaker was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She did an excellent job of explaining the symptomology, genetics and current management options.
