This course is designed to meet the requirements of biennial licensure renewal for healthcare licensees in Pennsylvania. Content includes the nature of the child welfare system in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the aspects of child abuse in Pennsylvania law, potential indicators of child abuse, the provisions and responsibilities for reporting suspected child abuse, and how to make appropriate referrals to the child welfare system. This course was updated in 2020 to include new information required due to changes in the law.

David W. Stein, Ph.D., is Professor and Program Director of the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Program at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He is the Chairman of the Pennsylvania Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. He is past president of the Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and was previously a member of the Legislative Council of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. In composing this presentation, his role is that of a license holder as a speech-language pathologist. He is not representing the Board of Examiners, the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs, or the Pennsylvania Department of State.
