Perhaps it wasn't clearly aligned with my state requirements for writing an IEP. I found the text to be wordy, redundant, and contradictory. Even the visual aid was too wordy and confusing.

There were detailed examples of what should be included in the PLAAFP on separate slides, which were discussed. However, it would’ve been nice to see completed PLAAFP examples at the end. She did share one “beginning of a PLAAFP”.

After 20 years as a medical SLP, I have transitioned to the schools. IEP writing and format is new to me. This course broke down the areas and information required in a manner that is easily understood, and allowed me to connect the components to those that I am used to in the hospital setting where the motto is "if you didn't document it, it didn't happen". I really like the emphasis on functional performance, this should drive all therapy goals, hospital or school setting.

This course was enlightening. I believe that the platform my district uses divides the PLAAFP into different sections for us to fill out, but I did not realize exactly how detailed it should be because I was following examples given to me in my district. I am now much more aware of how much detail I should include and plan to include more details based on the presentation given here. It was very helpful to see how she begins her statements and to understand that it is the student’s story.
