It discusses postoperative anatomy and physiology and the importance of preoperative counseling, along with approaches to inpatient management and the SLP’s role across the continuum of care.

- After this course, participants will be able to describe the postoperative anatomy and physiology of speech and swallowing following total glossectomy.
- After this course, participants will be able to describe the importance of pre-operative counseling, when to intervene postoperatively, and how to best assess speech and swallowing.
- After this course, participants will be able to define the speech pathologist’s role across the continuum of care for speech and swallowing rehabilitation in patients that have undergone a total glossectomy.

Jodi Knott is a staff speech pathologist working with HCA in Houston, Texas. She received her graduate degree from Eastern Illinois University in 1993. She has worked as a speech pathologist for 28 years,18 of those years at The MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Jodi has extensive experience evaluating and treating patients with head and neck cancer, specifically those who will or have undergone glossectomy and laryngectomy. She is particularly known for her management of laryngectomized patients who have undergone complex reconstructions and require specialized and novel treatment approaches.
