I feel that this training will be very helpful in not only my career as a speech therapist, but in other areas as a professional. I feel that grief is more common than we think and is universal in all areas. With mental health becoming a more important topic, this was a great training to discuss grief in relation to diagnosis.

Above all I am extremely grateful for the brave parents who spoke to us. As an SLP who has been in the field for 30 years I have been blessed with the opportunity to be trained in reflective supervision for 16 years and learned very early on of this topic. I chose to view this course to see the content; it exceeded my expectations. This should be a mandatory topic/class in all training universities, I hope it is.

Presenters gave a unique perspective being both SLPs and moms of children with disabilities including apraxia. The videos of other parents real life experiences with the different phases of grief and as helpful to empathize more. It’s not everyday that you really think about what the parent is feeling, the fears and worries they have on a regular basis. Good course to make you think!

I appreciated the presenters sharing their own experiences with grief re: their own child's dx. As a young SLP, I really wasn't prepared for the issues that parents would have concerning their child's dx and progress. I saw a lot of anger and frustration which I didn't understand. It wasn't until years later when my mom was dx with dementia that I began to understand what those parents had been experiencing. This is wonderful content. Keep up the good work!

The parent perspectives were so valuable. I’m using this in teaching Counseling in SLP, as gradúate students get a realistic view of parents’ grief over time, what NOT to say and write, and how to put parents first in their hearts and minds as they work hard to help the child with communication disorders. Bravo!

This is such a valuable topic, particularly for clinicians to hear from professionals in our field who also have personal experience being the grieving parent. Having both perspectives at once is a unique and more complete perspective, and I am so grateful for the presenters combining their personal and professional experiences.
