Validation about what I am doing as an SLP as a feeding specialist. Also, she presented this very well as sharing personal information about your own struggles and how you have not only dealt with this on a personal level but how you integrate this into your professional life and help the children and families is so admirable. I have learned more about the allergy information which I think is paramount to determining sensory versus learned helplessness ( in my district), "picky eater"

As a parent who has a child who suffers with allergies it was extremely informative seeing the list of foods that can cause allergic reactions. Not only the common reactions- swelling but headaches and stomach aches. I learned foods high in histamines and that along with the food allergies persons experience anxiety.

This is an area of personal interest as I am a person with an autoimmune allergy disease myself. The research is highly evolving and I was so happy to learn that this presenter is up to date! High histamine foods - yes! A major problem for so many! I also have had many students with allergy issues and the desensitization aspect is important even for SLPs! I have had co-treatment goals with OT to try desensitizing in my session as a different person who is highly liked!
