Children with resonance disorders (hypernasality, hyponasality and cul-de-sac resonance) present challenges for speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in all settings. Ann W. Kummer
Ann W. Kummer, PhD is Senior Director of the Division of Speech-Language Pathology at Cincinnati Children's and Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine. She has done hundreds of national and international lectures, particularly regarding clefts and velopharyngeal dysfunction. She’s the author of numerous articles, 24 book chapters, and the text entitled: Cleft Palate and Craniofacial Anomalies: The Effects on Speech and Resonance, 3rd Edition (Cengage Learning 2014). Dr. Kummer developed the Simplified Nasometric Assessment Procedures (SNAP) Test-R (2005) for nasometry (PENTAX Medical). She holds a patent on the nasoscope, which is marketed as the Oral & Nasal Listener (Super Duper, Inc.). Dr. Kummer has received numerous honors, including Honors of the Ohio Speech-Language-Hearing Association (OSLHA); Distinguished Alumnus Award of the College of Allied Health, University of Cincinnati; and the Elwood Chaney Outstanding Clinician Award from OSLHA. She is an ASHA Fellow.
