Even though this is not something I would likely face in the SNF setting, I have always been very interested in the topic. I'm still a little out to sea on all the PIPs and PEEPs, but the decision making process is something I can definitely use.

What made it excellent? Two things. One, info that actually impacts therapy. Info that was new to me! Specifically, the pip/peep stuff was new! Good info. Two, the "frameworks" for thinking...i.e. making flowcharts, avoiding bias, adjusting...basically, metacognition about learning. If a therapist has that, mixed with care for the patient, the ship will right itself, mistakes will be minimized as much as possible, the therapist will improve. Good stuff. Not everyone thinks like this.

Very excited to have come across an expert person on this topic! I've worked many years in a LTAC (currently in acute and outpatient), but still do PRN with LTAC in Chicago/NWI, so trach/vent has been my area. I love going between acute, long-term, and outpatient with this scope. Thank you for addressing all the scenarios as it's ever evolving in what we do.

Decision making charts about patients with trachs seems good in theory, but I feel it would be difficult to implement in an acute care setting where there is a push to get patients moving to a different level of care or discharged quickly. My experience is that doctors push therapists to do PO trials quickly and I'm not sure they would accept such a rigid flow chart.

Thank you for providing such a clear and research based understanding of how to provide the best service to our trach and vent patients. This is what I needed so badly when I started working with these patients. I now see my mistakes 9and what I’ve done well) and I will be able to move forward much more safely and consistently.

This course breaks down the complexities in clinical decision making into bite size chunks specifically related to trach and vent but can be applied to dysphagia management in general. This decision making framework highlights the large gray area under which we as SLPs operate and provides some clarity and objectivity into a previously murky process. This type of structured decision making needs to accompany all our assessments (bedside and/or instrumental). This course is a must.

The presenter has a pleasant voice which is important for such a course and his rate of speech made it easy to follow the course in its entirety. The emphasis on the risks every step in the care of Susan places a lot of emphasis on the fragility of the patient, the importance of teamwork, the need for frequent evaluation of the patient response to interventions take reminds the SLP of the complexity of trach patients and that everyone is different.

This information is very valuable for any clinician working in a hospital, inpatient/acute care setting . Although my contact with patients is in a Pediatric outpatient setting, I have had the benefit of working with many of them with complex medical histories .This course was helpful to me in understanding "what" many of these little ones had to overcome to get to the outpatient arena. This was a great presentation. I graduated and received my license before Dysphagia was part of Communication Disorders discipline. I now am caring, as a relative, for an at risk premature 14 month old baby boy who has a vent and G and J tubes. This course has given me so much useful information that I can offer my daughter who will adopt this child soon and possibly take into her home. The presenter delivered all this information in an easy to understand format. His compassion is so evident.
