This course will review the causes, signs and symptoms, staging, and treatment options for patients with head and neck cancer. Evaluation and evidence based treatment strategies for patients undergoing chemoradiation will be reviewed. Information presented will include methods for management of side effects relating to swallowing. Implementation of a prophylactic swallow therapy program will also be discussed.

Meryl Kaufman, M.Ed, CCC-SLP, BCS-S
Meryl Kaufman, M.Ed, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, is a board certified swallowing specialist with expertise in the evaluation and treatment of patients with head and neck cancer. Ms. Kaufman developed the Emory University Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Speech Pathology Program. Her expertise includes dysphagia evaluation and treatment and post laryngectomy voice and pulmonary rehabilitation. She has provided multiple local and national lectures on head and neck cancer rehabilitation. Ms. Kaufman also serves as a board member of the Head and Neck Cancer Alliance.
