I really appreciate the content of this course. I've had opportunities to learn about ACES in the past but have never had training around how that impacts my job as an SLP. This course helped me better understand how my role as an SLP can help identify and serve students who have a history of trauma.

I have many students affected by trauma. As teams, we often discuss the role it may play in a student's behavior and learning. This training offered a great approach for helping students regulate themselves and it can be adapted for different ages.

This is one of the best courses I've ever taken. The COPING framework was novel, detailed, and extremely practical to implement. The case histories provided a working understanding of the program. This information was applicable to many of the language delayed children I've worked with over the years. Very well done!

Very helpful course for any SLP working in the school setting. Presenter gave clear information on how developmental trauma can influence children's behaviors that may benefit from appropriate strategies or interventions. Discussion on the causes of dysregulated behaviors was also very helpful to listen to.

I really liked the Venn diagrams and the behavior checklists that are given to multiple people. It is so important to understand that the child is only interested in survival when they are triggered, not with higher order language. It is also interesting to know that the primitive brain is overdeveloped in these children. Thank you for the trial and practice strategies and for teaching kids to recognize their own coping strategies.

I really enjoyed this topic. I hadn't heard developmental trauma being compared to ASD and ADHD like this before. I was surprised by all of the similarities. I could see how the diagnosis would get missed if you didn't do the digging. This is great information to keep in mind when evaluating future students.

Brought to light the fact that developmental trauma is hardly recognized as a disorder and is often misdiagnosed as ASD or ADHD. Provided ways we can accurately diagnose this disorder by doing a thorough case history and getting to the real reasons behind their behaviors (i.e. ACE) Clarified the meanings of fight, flight, freeze and fawn behaviors in children who have suffered ACE. Indicated seven areas that are affected: sensory, attachment , emotional, dissociation, behavioral, dissociation

It is impossible to teach children who are not in a place of learning. This course did a great job explaining F/F/F/F/ types of behavior, as well as how to identify and work through some of these behaviors. Information in this course can help get your clients to a place of learning and allow you to recognize some of the mechanisms behind the behaviors.
