As an adult who has been educated about my trauma through books related to DTD, AND a clinician who has seen ASD severely overdiagnosed, it's extremely refreshing to see this subject making its way into our scope and conversation. This is huge and I hope this material spreads like wildfire so awareness is raised. It's going to be difficult for many to accept because of their own DTD and wanting, like some parents, to attribute this to something more tangible like ASD, but I'm grateful it's here!

It was good to hear the reasons why children are mis diagnosted and how we look to look deeper. Kids are traumatized and they show/react in different ways and it's not easy for them. My eyes are open.

This information is critical and should be mandatory for all. Childhood trauma, sadly, continues throughout the lifespan. Understanding that they are the victims of trauma and how to self-regulate should be most helpful early on. This is eye-opening for many of us. So glad to see this course offered.

I learned so much information I was unaware of! Just having the knowledge that developmental trauma is something to consider, with many similarities to characteristics of ASD and ADHD, was eye opening. I feel like this broadens my assessment tools/outlook and brings attention to an overlooked but not uncommon diagnosis.

Many children we see, including those with well established ASD diagnoses, have histories of trauma and may present with mixed clinical pictures. This was helpful in planning ways to sort out ACE based behaviors I learned some additional targeted strategies and also learned why having used some of these may have been helpful for reasons which I had not identified. A team approach is clearly indicated.

Such an important topic. It is so critical to understand the root causes for behaviors that interfere with a child’s ability to learn and to engage with others and their environment in an appropriate, “expected” way, so that we as clinicians can work to address the dysregulation (help co-regulate) rather than focusing on reinforcing/extinguishing the behaviors that occur as a result of dysregulation. This is really important for parents/guardians and educators to understand, too.

I am an adult in my mid 50s with a history of DTD. The freeze response is one that has impacted my entire life. Some of the interventions that have recently helped me is inner child work combined with myofascial release, spiritual meditation, connections with others who share a similar history, and the ability to contact close friends. Children with DTD could most probably benefit from OT, with an emphasis on reflex integration. I bless you for your work in helping these young children in pain.
