I think this is an important topic, especially as we are seeing more shifts in schools from balanced to structured literacy and the resulting increase of S-LP involvement in literacy. Since I am already familiar with DLD and the simple view of reading, the content of this presentation made sense (DLD = listening comp difficulties = reading comp difficulties), but it was also more basic-level information. A good introduction, but I would like more advanced-level content in this area.

The instructor was well organized and addressed information that was current and relevant. The information that was presented was very detailed. The instructor covered a substantial amount of information within the one-hour session and occasionally was a bit difficult to follow. Despite the level of detail, it was difficult to determine whether the answers to a couple of the exam questions were directly specified in the presentation (even with a review of the slides and transcript).

She spoke clearly and presented good information about the relationship between DLD and dyslexia, which was helpful. However, while I understand the need to discuss evidence, she overdid the "and I did this study, and that study, etc." In addition, having 40% of the assessment questions asking about statistics is totally inappropriate. There was plenty of worthwhile, useable information that matter far more than the statistics that will not impact a professional's work with children.

I learned lots of important information regarding DLD and dyslexia separately as well as when they present together in a child having difficulty with language and reading. I also gained good knowledge on how they are very much interrelated and the importance of early detection (& prevention) of literacy abilities when a child present with language difficulties in early childhood. I also agree that an "ounce of prevention is worth a pound of diagnosis", an important concept to keep in mind.
