Provided practical and detailed information that SLP can gain from this procedure. Some question the value of the clinical swallow assessment, but this seminar showed why it is important and what information can be learned from it.

The instructor presented information in clear manner. She explored common bedside protocol (citing research in the area) to determine how valuable and effective each step is. I loved how she talked about integrating all results to create a "big picture" of the clinician's impressions of the patient, rather than focusing on one aspect of the clinical bedside assessment. I appreciated her insight into how important respiration (breathing-swallow coordination) is in a patient's safe swallow.

I am used to doing VFSS following bedside clinical exams, and this reminded me the importance of using my clinical skills in completing the bedside. This is also an opportunity to develop a positive rapport with the patient prior to doing a diagnostic assessment. I appreciated the presenters take on the use of our integration of clinical skills because I don't believe I've been giving myself enough credit on the things I'm picking up on the clinical exam that are intuitive based on experience
