I have recently been assigned the case manager for 2, high school students that are in a self-contained setting. Both are in need of using AAC. This course was exactly what I was looking for as a refresher for how to get started with low-tech activities that I can begin using immediately during our sessions as I evaluate what type of system will fit their individual needs.

I appreciate that the presenter has strong knowledge in the area of AAC. I have been an SLP for many years and did not have any college courses in the area of AAC. I am trying to increase my knowledge and understanding in this area after being out of the school setting for some time , and now returning. I would consider this course a quick overview of of low tech options for use in the classroom. I wish that more had been explained with examples and possibly video for someone who is not familiar with low tech devices. For example: Voice Output Devices- There was no explanation as to how these devices work, how to program; Pictures and additional information for understanding how they are programmed and how they work would be helpful. Partner assisted scanning - I have no idea what this is, or how it works after listening to the information provided. I think that it would be helpful if the presenter took the perspective of those who do not have knowledge in low tech AAC.
