Aphasia Awareness Month

June is National Aphasia Awareness Month. In an effort to continue raising awareness about aphasia, a communication disorder affecting more than 1 million Americans, we are featuring courses to help clinicians provide the most current and effective care for patients living with this condition.

Integrating AAC into Aphasia Clinical Practice, presented by Kristy Weissling, SLP.D, CCC-SLP, describes the key factors in successful AAC integration into clinical practice for patients with aphasia. Ways to create personalized AAC systems for people with aphasia are also discussed.

Clinical Application of Research Methodology for Phoneme-Based Rehabilitation for Anomia, presented by Jennifer Kerr, MS, CCC-SLP, reviews the current research on phoneme-based rehabilitation and how it is being used to improve anomia across multiple contexts.

Megan Sutton, MS, RSLP, CCC-SLP (C), joins us Thursday, June 25, 2015, at 4:00 pm EDT to present, Integrating Apps into Aphasia Therapy. Learn how to integrate apps and the iPad into aphasia therapy to better support your interventions and clients.

Stuttering Assessment and Treatment: What Every SLP Needs to Know

Amy has more than 14 years of experience as a speech-language pathologist. Prior to joining SpeechPathology.com in 2009, she previously worked at Case Western Reserve University assisting on several research projects funded by the National Institutes of Health focusing on childhood apraxia of speech and the impact of SSD on reading and writing development in school-age children. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Saint Mary’s College and an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from Northern Illinois University.
