Better Hearing and Speech Month

May is Better Hearing and Speech Month – a time to raise public awareness, knowledge and understanding of communication disorders. This year’s theme, “Early Intervention Counts”, highlights the importance of early identification (EI) and treatment of speech-language disorders. SpeechPathology.com has over 35 courses related to early intervention that can assist you in better serving young children and their families. Our top EI courses include:

First Verbs, First Books & Focused Stimulation - Presenter Susan Hendler Lederer discusses the evidence for facilitating first verbs by integrating focused language stimulation and gestures during shared book reading at home and in therapy. Book recommendations will be provided.

Language Sample Techniques - Presenter Jennifer Garrett, PhD, CCC-SLP addresses how to obtain a quality language sample by focusing on the setting, materials, types of interactions and sample size.

Routine Scripts and Rule Books for Young Children: Teaching Effective & Preventative PBS Strategies - Presenter Pamelazita Buschbacher, Ed.D, CCC-SLP describes the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) process and discusses ways to prevent challenging behaviors and teach young children acceptable social, emotional and communicative skills.

Pearson’s EBP Briefs

SpeechPathology.com and Pearson have partnered to offer a new approach to learning/new approach to earning CEUs with Pearson’s Evidence-based Practice Briefs (EBP). Pearson's EBP Briefs are case studies designed to assist with using evidence-based practice in everyday clinical decision-making. Each case will examine a clinical question, analyze current literature and discuss the resultant clinical decision and its application to clinical practice.

This is a great way to learn from the experts and earn your CEUs at the same time. Check out the first of many articles here, and be on the lookout for more Pearson’s EBP Briefs coming soon.
