Pediatric Swallow Studies: How Do They Impact Plans of Care?
As speech-language pathologists, we are responsible for ensuring safe and efficient swallowing across all populations. Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS) and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) are instrumental in developing comprehensive treatment plans for patients with dysphagia. While these assessment tools are widely utilized in adult settings, they remain underutilized in pediatric practice. This course reviews the advantages and limitations of each diagnostic procedure and discusses how these valuable assessment tools can enhance dysphagia services for pediatric populations.
