This presentation will discuss the SLP role in the Diagnosis and Treatment of individuals with Asperger Syndrome/High Functioning Autism. The participants will understand important diagnostic criteria, targets for intervention and general strategies for improving overall success.

Course Learning Outcomes
Preview Exam - Participants will be able to list assessment tools used in diagnosis of HFA/Asperger Syndrome.
- Participants will be able to state strengths and weaknesses of currently available assessment tools.
- Participants will be able to name communication areas identified as weaknesses in HFA/Asperger Syndrome.
- Participants will be able to list some specific intervention strategies for communication/social deficits.

This was an outstanding course. I am an SLP with a son who has Asperger's, and this is the best presentation I have ever seen on the subject. I do not work with children with Asperger's syndrome, but I will be incorporating a number of the techniques presented into our home life.

Course Presenter
Donna S. Murray, Ph.D.
Dr. Murray has over 20 years experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum, providing speech-language therapy and autism consultation to families, schools and community agencies. She holds a joint faculty appointment in Pediatrics and the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders where she teaches a course in "Communication Issues in Autism Spectrum Disorders" and mentors student research projects. She is a past Co-President and current board member of the Autism Society of Greater Cincinnati, member of the Regional Autism Advisory Council and Hamilton County Autism Task Force. She has a particular focus in HFA and Asperger Syndrome. Her research areas include joint attention, language and play, and social skills development in children with autism spectrum disorders.
