Course Abstract
This presentation will describe the development of four dimensions of play in toddlers and preschool children and the interrelationships of the dimensions of play and children's language, social-emotional skills, self-regulation, and literacy from infancy through early elementary school.

Course Learning Outcomes
Preview Exam- Upon completing this course learners will be able to describe how playful interactions promote development of inter- and intra-personal theory of mind essential for the ability to make inferences and to self-regulate one's learning.
- Upon completing this course learners will be able to describe 4 dimensions of pretend play.
- Upon completing this course learners will be able to explain the relationships of pretend play dimensions to literacy.

Excellent, experienced, incredibly knowledgable presenter. Several of the exam questions were hard to figure out and I couldn't find the answers in the presentation materials. I liked the two hour format - it seems a much better length for these presentations - not as rushed and could explain the material more thoroughly. The videos and explanations were pertinent and very helpful.

It would have been excellent due to the many examples and videos except that some of the exam questions were difficult to answer even after I would replay the pertinant parts of the seminar. The questions were direct while several of the "answers" in the presentation seemed convoluted.

Carol Westby, PhD is currently a consultant for Bilingual Multicultural Services in Albuquerque, NM. She has recently been a visiting professor at Brigham Young University where she worked with faculty exploring assessment and intervention strategies in the area of social-emotional development for students with a variety of language impairments. She has received the Honors of ASHA and is a frequent presenter at conferences.
