Course Learning Outcomes
- The participant will be able to state the 10 cultural continuums (Callis-Buckley) which can guide observations of student behavior in the public school setting.
- The participant will be able to provide at least two examples of cross-cultural influences upon student behaviors in the public school for each of the cultural continuums presented.
- The participant will be able to provide at least one example of cross-cultural influence from the home/parent which can affect student behavior in the public school setting for each of the cultural continuums presented.
- The participant will be able to describe at least one method which can be used to lessen cultural influence upon behaviors observed in the public school for each of the cultural continuums presented.
Jomar K. Lococo, M.S., CCC-SLP
Jomar Lococo has been a speech-language pathologist in practice since 1974. She has worked in a variety of professional settings including public schools, higher education and private practice. Ms. Lococo holds ASHA certification and is dually licensed in both California and Oregon. Since 1985, Ms. Lococo has provided professional services to second language learners from five continents. In 1997, she received her certification as a teacher of English to speakers of other languages. Ms. Lococo has lectured extensively on topics addressing work with second language learners. She has been an invited speaker in local school districts, regional offices of education and has given refereed presentations at both state and national conventions.
