Course Abstract

Assessment of speech-language skills for children referred for special education must marry federal requirements with clinical best practice. This course will review federal special education requirements associated with evaluation and identify additional requirements states and local school districts may generate. It will identify best practice regarding selection, administration and analysis of standardized assessments (e.g., review of normative population, use and abuse of subtests, interpretation of test results) . The course will conclude with discussion of use of intervention data and informal assessment strategies (e.g., observations, artifact review, speech and language sampling) to inform eligibility decisions.

Overall content was good, a thorough review of the important factors that MANY school-based SLPs fail to include and/or consider. There were a few errors in the transcription that should be corrected. For example, "stimulate ability" should be "stimulability". I see that there was a notation reporting that the speaker spoke at a consistently fast rate. Perhaps the presenter should review the transcription first,
