Project-based intervention provides rich opportunities for individuals with aphasia to pursue meaningful goals and identity re-formulation in authentic contexts. This course explores tools for partnering with people living with aphasia to target meaningful project-based and participation-focused interventions applicable for clinic-based outpatient and community aphasia services. In-depth case examples will be provided, illustrating applications of project-based interventions across multiple settings using evidence-based components.

Katie Strong, Ph.D., CCC-SLP leads the Strong Story Lab at Central Michigan University, researching how clinicians can support people with aphasia in rebuilding identity through co-constructed narratives. Committed to the Life Participation Approach to Aphasia, she advocates for mental health support for those living with aphasia and cognitive-communication disorders. A Fellow of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Tavistock Trust Aphasia Scholar, Dr. Strong brings over 30 years of clinical experience with neurogenic communication disorders. She currently serves as President of the Council of Academic Programs for Communication Sciences and Disorders, hosts the Aphasia Access Conversations Podcast, and is a founding member of the Lansing Area Aphasia Support Group.

Dr. Sather is a professor at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and a speech-language pathologist at Mayo Clinic Health System - Eau Claire. He is Past President of Aphasia Access, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Chippewa Valley Aphasia Network. He is a staff member of the Chippewa Valley Aphasia Camp, and has been since its inception in 2004.
