Pearson's EBP Briefs are case-based courses designed to assist with everyday decision-making in clinical practice. This case will examine the clinical question, “Do adults with dementia living in a long-term care (LTC) facility who receive Spaced Retrieval (SR) training, compared to adults with dementia living in a long-term care facility who do not receive SR training, show improvement in self-feeding and/or use of swallowing compensations?” The related literature search and analysis, along with the resultant clinical decision and application to clinical practice, will also be discussed. A relevant assessment tool for this case is the CLQT+ (Helm-Estabrooks, 2017).

Ryan S. Husak is a practicing SLP and doctoral candidate in the Rehabilitation Sciences Program at the University of Kentucky. He is interested in researching treatment and assessment procedures for aphasia and other related neurogenic disorders. He has published his research in Aphasiology, Neurocase, and Evidence-Based Practice Briefs.
Christen Guffey Page, PhD, CCC-SLP
Christen Guffey Page is a speech-language pathologist and certified dementia practitioner who has been practicing speech therapy for 11 years. She graduated from Western Kentucky University in 2005 and received her PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Kentucky in 2015. The majority of her clinical experience is in adult rehabilitation in a variety of settings including inpatient & outpatient rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities. Her research interests include interprofessional education, qualitative research, and quality of life for residents in long-term care facilities.
