Pearson's EBP Briefs are case-based courses designed to assist with everyday decision-making in clinical practice. This case will examine the clinical question, “For a preschool student with a severe phonological disorder, will incorporating a non-developmental target sequence be a more efficient approach than a developmental target sequence for improving speech sound production?” The related literature search and analysis, along with the resultant clinical decision and application to clinical practice, will also be discussed. A good assessment tool for this course is the Goldman-Fristoe Test of Articulation - 3rd Edition (GFTA-3).

Her research interests primarily focus on intervention effectiveness for children with speech sound disorders, as well as the effects of school-based speech therapy on the literacy development of young children with speech and language impairments.

Jennifer T. Dunkle, PhD, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist at Lancaster City Schools, Lancaster, Ohio. She is also an adjunct instructor at Ohio University.
