Language sampling techniques for preschool and school-aged students will be presented. The course will address obtaining a quality language sample by focusing on the setting, materials, types of interactions and sample size. Participants will have the opportunity to practice transcribing a language sample and completing a preliminary analysis.

Jennifer Garrett, PhD, CCC-SLP
Jennifer Walz Garrett, PhD, CCC-SLP (J.G.), is an Assistant Professor in the department of Communication Sciences and Disorders and also serves as one of the co-directors of the Center for Disability Studies in Literacy, Language and Learning at University of Northern Iowa (UNI). Dr. Garrett received her doctoral degree at University of Cincinnati in 2007, prior to which she worked as a school speech-language pathologist. Dr. Garrett has expertise in school-aged literacy and language disorders, genetics/syndromes and counseling skills.
