This course provides an overview of ethical principles and discusses the role of values (the provider's and the patient's) in medical decision-making. Informed consent and patient preferences are discussed, with an emphasis on patients whose communication is impaired or decisional capacity is in question (a screening assessment for decisional capacity will be provided).
