This course will provide an introduction to modified barium swallow studies. Video clips and static video will be used to teach anatomical markers of the oropharyngeal swallow, physiology of the normal swallow and oropharyngeal phases, and provide examples of normal esophageal function. Note: This is a 2-hour event. Exam content will be presented within the event; please print the preview exam OR have pencil/paper ready to record your answers for entry into the electronic system afterward. Debra Tarakofsky, MS, CCC-SLP
Debra Tarakofsky is a certified and licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with 20+ years experience working in acute care hospitals, skilled nursing and assisted living facilities with an adult and geriatric population.
For the last 14 years Debra has been the President and Clinical Administrator of Swallowing Diagnostics, Inc., a mobile provider of modified barium swallow studies in Florida that has performed over 20,000 modified barium swallow studies. In this capacity she has been responsible for conducting modified barium swallow studies, supervising and training other speech language pathologists to perform modified barium swallow studies, implementing standards of performance, marketing, and business development. Debra is the CEU Administrator for Swallowing Diagnostics, Inc., and is also an adjunct instructor at NovaSoutheastern University, where she has the responsibility for teaching, developing, and ongoing modification of online dysphagia labs of modified barium swallow studies. Debra has presented at ASHA, FLASHA, skilled nursing facilities and health maintenance organizations on the topics of dysphagia and modified barium swallow studies.
