This course introduces speech-language pathologists to the foundational knowledge and practical tools needed to design and implement high-quality clinical simulations. Participants explore the essential components of effective simulation design, including scenario development, fidelity, pre-briefing, debriefing, and assessment. Course discussion includes how to critically adapt established simulation frameworks from other health disciplines for SLP-specific contexts. Through examples and interactive discussion, participants will leave prepared to integrate simulation-based learning into their own educational or clinical training programs.

Brianna Hammerle
MA CCC-SLP, Assistant Teaching Professor
Brianna Hammerle is a licensed adult-medical speech-language pathologist who currently serves as an assistant teaching professor at Syracuse University. Prior to joining academia, Hammerle worked as a speech-language pathologist at a variety of medical settings.
Hammerle's research interests relate to the scholarship of teaching and learning, where she has co-authored multiple studies focused on student outcomes with the incorporation of effective teaching strategies, including the use of clinical simulation and a focus on interprofessional education IPE. She is the co-developer and lead instructor for the on-campus Adult Medical Simulation Lab, which strives to bridge the gap between classroom learning and externship in medical settings, and is currently completing post-graduate certification in healthcare simulation.
