Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) CEU Courses for SLPs

This is Part 3 of a four-part series. It is estimated that approximately 80% of children with autism present with significant, generalized motor delays. This course describes how SLPs can integrate movement into their therapy sessions to treat the whole child while improving non-verbal and verbal communication skills.

This is Part 2 of a four-part series. It’s estimated that 25-30% of children with autism will never develop fluent speech. This course describes speech development, neurological issue that can interfere with it, and research-based strategies that can be implemented immediately to improve speech outcomes for clients on the autism spectrum.

This is Part 4 of a four-part series. Children with autism have stories to tell. This course describes the impact strong storytelling skills have on a child’s attention, executive functioning, and language abilities. How to use multimodal cues in the context of task-oriented movement activities and effective scaffolding of storytelling skills are addressed.

This is Part 1 of a four-part series. Pivotal foundations that should be addressed early in autism are described in this course. Specifically, building rapport based on the child’s unique interests, developing open channels of communication with parents, writing goals, and implementing Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC) to empower children are discussed.

Techniques for anticipating, analyzing, and addressing complex behaviors in adolescents and young adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are discussed in this course. Strategies such as behavior plans, self-monitoring systems, and visual schedules are described. Additionally, tools and resources that can help support autistic individuals and their caregivers are addressed.

This is Part 1 of a two-part series. Key terms that all evaluation partners need to be knowledgeable about are described. The importance of using those key terms for an accurate diagnosis or classification is discussed.

This is Part 2 of a two-part series. Factors that should be considered when differentiating Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) from Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Intellectual Disability, Emotional Disability, and Speech-Language Impairment are described in this course. Important questions and critical data that support an accurate diagnosis or classification are also discussed.

Neurodiversity, neurodivergence, and neurodiversity (ND)-affirming approaches are discussed in this course. Strengths-based assessment, goals and supports that characterize ND-affirming approaches are described. Case scenarios are presented to exemplify ways to help those who are neurodivergent succeed in school and clinical settings.

This is Part 2 of a four-part series. The reasons that print knowledge matters and ways that SLPs can improve it are discussed in this course. Components of print knowledge, challenges with print knowledge and their prevalence in autism, and evidence-based, multi-modal print referencing strategies for immediate use in clinical practice are addressed.
