This course will empower Speech-Language Pathologists to take a more active role in the identification and treatment of dyslexia by exploring the specific areas in which our expertise in language development intersects with literacy learning. Evidence-based frameworks for contribution to multi-disciplinary evaluations and intervention programs will be shared.

In this course, participants will learn about metafictive picture books and how to use them to facilitate emergent literacy skills. A variety of books will be used to illustrate strategies.

This course will focus on the treatment of MCI using current best practices. Intervention structure and content, as well as examples of strategies and activities for clinical implementation will be reviewed.

In order to treat the whole patient, we need an understanding of how stress and trauma impacts their treatment, as well as the importance of self-care to keep us sustained. Participants will be able to identify rising levels of stress, understand trauma, and employ self-care tools to bring them back to effectiveness and wholeness.

This course is designed to meet the requirements of biennial licensure renewal for healthcare licensees in Pennsylvania. Content includes the nature of the child welfare system in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the aspects of child abuse in Pennsylvania law, potential indicators of child abuse, the provisions and responsibilities for reporting suspected child abuse, and how to make appropriate referrals to the child welfare system. This course was updated in 2020 to include new information required due to changes in the law.

This course will provide an overview for the healthcare professional about Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Participants will learn strategies related to improving communication with patients and families, understanding and managing behavioral challenges, and promoting independence.

This is Part 2 of a two-part series. Children with resonance disorders (hypernasality, hyponasality and cul-de-sac resonance) present challenges for speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in all settings. This course is designed to provide simple, yet very reliable low-tech evaluation techniques for practicing SLPs who frequently or occasionally see clients with cleft palate, hypernasality, or suspected velopharyngeal dysfunction. This is Part 1 of a two-part series. Children with resonance disorders (hypernasality, hyponasality and cul-de-sac resonance) or suspected velopharyngeal dysfunction present challenges for SLPs in all settings. This course is designed to provide information about the causes and characteristics of resonance disorders and velopharyngeal dysfunction so that these disorders can be recognized and appropriate treatment can be recommended. This course will help speech–language pathologists to refine their goal-writing skills. Quality speech–language IEP goals will be defined as those that teach students the primary skills for classroom success and that are written in a manner that is both measurable and teachable.
