In this course, participants will learn about metafictive picture books and how to use them to facilitate emergent literacy skills. A variety of books will be used to illustrate strategies.

This course will provide the SLP with an in-depth understanding of home health care with adult patients. It includes information regarding the history of home care, counseling and generalization in the home care setting, the Outcome & Assessment Information Set (OASIS), and considerations for care planning, assessment, documentation and treatment. This course is part of the 2018 Nancy McKinley Lecture Series, Evaluating and Enhancing Children's Phonological Systems. The purpose of this course is to discuss phonological assessment and intervention for bilingual children with highly unintelligible speech. Topics will include an overview of assessment modifications and recommendations to account for dialects, selecting Spanish and English phonological remediation targets, and implementing a bilingual phonological remediation approach, with particular emphasis on intervention strategies.

In order to treat the whole patient, we need an understanding of how stress and trauma impacts their treatment, as well as the importance of self-care to keep us sustained. Participants will be able to identify rising levels of stress, understand trauma, and employ self-care tools to bring them back to effectiveness and wholeness.

This course is designed to meet the requirements of biennial licensure renewal for healthcare licensees in Pennsylvania. Content includes the nature of the child welfare system in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the aspects of child abuse in Pennsylvania law, potential indicators of child abuse, the provisions and responsibilities for reporting suspected child abuse, and how to make appropriate referrals to the child welfare system. Children with resonance disorders (hypernasality, hyponasality and cul-de-sac resonance) present challenges for speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in all settings.
