Accurate payment for SLP services depends on compliance with payer guidelines (e.g., coverage, supervision) and the specific payment system (e.g., prospective payment, fee-for-service) relevant to the practice setting (e.g., inpatient, outpatient) in which the service is provided. This course will define and illustrate the interrelationship of these three professional elements, including their relevance to supervision requirements, and will provide resources for further assistance.

Standardization of measures used in the interpretation of videofluoroscopic swallow studies is necessary to facilitate communication across providers and to ensure the correct application of rehabilitation and compensatory strategies. This course will review the many videofluoroscopic swallow study metrics that are utilized across different stages of the lifespan, and report on the evidence that supports their correlation to treatment.

This Research Watch Report focuses on some of the most current research in telepractice assessment and intervention with people with aphasia (PWA). Three research articles are summarized, including a discussion of the rationale, methodology and results of each, and potential clinical applications of the evidence are described.

This course will provide strategies and frameworks for developing skills in supervising students, clinical fellows, and employees. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of the relationship between the supervisor and supervisee, techniques for supporting avenues for reflection, use of tools to recognize and address value conflict, and developing methods of delivering feedback.

Implicit biases affect how people perceive, evaluate, and react to others. This course will provide an overview of implicit biases, including what they are, where they come from, and their effects. Strategies will be discussed that can reduce the influence of implicit biases, in order to allow healthcare professionals to better meet the needs of those they serve.

This course will address the theoretical underpinnings and research base related to differential diagnosis and treatment of articulation and phonological deficits in children with speech sound disorders. Special considerations for how to tailor evaluation and intervention to meet the needs of school-age children will be discussed.

This course will focus on cognitive-communication intervention strategies for various dementia presentations and will provide a review of evidence-based treatment. Behavioral frameworks along with their rationales will be introduced and applied across several dementia types and mild, moderate and severe levels of impairment.

This is Part 2 of a two-part series. This course will apply the science of decision-making to case studies of ethical dilemmas that speech-language pathologists may experience, by providing an ethical decision-making framework and strategies for mitigating certain adverse influences on decision-making.

This course discusses the syntactical complexities of written language and reasons why adolescents struggle with writing. It further identifies the characteristics of adolescents who are struggling with syntactic demands of writing, and provides ideas for therapeutic practices/activities to target these specific difficulties.

This course will review the science of decision-making and how factors such as bias, cognitive dissonance, willful blindness, and “group think” may have an adverse influence on our ability to make thoughtful, well-informed decisions, including ethical decisions. Strategies that can minimize the influence of these factors and create more positive, achievable outcomes will be discussed.
