This is Part 4 of the four-part series, Pyramid Model in Early Childhood: Improving Social Emotional Competence & Reducing Challenging Behaviors. This course addresses designing and implementing a Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Plan that is child-centered, with a focus on skill-building for functional and developmentally appropriate communication. Strategies are provided for preventing challenging behaviors as well as teaching replacement behaviors.

This course provides information to help participants differentiate between central and peripheral leakage of tracheoesophageal voice prostheses and identify the potential causes. Specific solutions are discussed, including problem-solving applicable to both inpatient and outpatient settings.

This course discusses the steps of the Positive Behavior Support Process, with a particular focus on Functional Behavioral Assessment and developing a working behavior hypothesis statement.

This course identifies the basic functions of an artificial larynx as well as strategies to optimize use across both inpatient and outpatient settings. Additionally, it discusses techniques to assess and train patients to use the artificial larynx and apply simple troubleshooting techniques.

Using complexity as a guideline for careful selection of phonologic targets can support the re-organization of a child’s speech sound system. This 20Q discusses characteristics and components of the child's phonological system and of stimuli that should be considered when selecting targets, and how to apply the complexity approach via practical therapy strategies.

This is Part 2 of the four-part series, Pyramid Model in Early Childhood: Improving Social Emotional Competence & Reducing Challenging Behaviors. This course focuses on teaching evidence-based, targeted social-emotional skills (e.g., identifying and expressing emotions, self-regulation, social problem-solving, friendship skills, and co-operative responding) to young children via the Pyramid Model in order to promote their social-emotional development, prevent challenging behavior, and better prepare them academically.

This is Part 1 of the four-part series, Pyramid Model in Early Childhood: Improving Social Emotional Competence & Reducing Challenging Behaviors. This course provides an overview of the Pyramid Model for Supporting Social Emotional Competence in Infants and Young Children, and discusses its beneficial effects on emotional literacy and challenging behaviors that can interfere with educational as well as therapeutic assessment and intervention. The first two tiers of the Pyramid Model and the roles that SLPs play on the team are addressed.

The sudden loss of intimacy post-stroke can have a dramatic change on satisfaction in a relationship, and this added cost to caregiving is often not addressed in rehabilitation. This course discusses the evidence related to changes in intimacy when an individual has aphasia, outcomes from a community program targeting intimate reconnection, and ways speech-language pathologists can support the reclaiming of these important relationships.

There is a complex grieving process that many parents experience when their child receives a diagnosis of childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) or other diagnosis. This course defines relevant terminology and describes the triggers and stages of grief that are common to this grieving process. It also discusses strategies to help families move forward in a positive way.
