Supporting Young Children’s Social-Emotional Literacy: Effective and Evidenced-based PBS Strategies

Course: #6060Level: Introductory 1 Hour 41 Reviews

A large and complex feeling vocabulary is a prerequisite skill to emotional regulation and successful interpersonal interactions for young children. Emotional literacy is the ability to recognize, label, and understand those feelings in oneself and others, allowing young children to make finer discriminations between their and others’ feelings, to better communicate and to problem solve with adults and peers in home, school and community when challenging situations arise. Limited emotional literacy can result in misperceptions of feelings in oneself and others, interfere with interactions and learning and result in challenging behaviors. This course will provide information on the value of supporting young children’s emotional literacy, as well as evidenced-based strategies for that purpose.
