I liked seeing the videos of different warm-up activities. I liked learning about the structure of their groups and the various ideas for activities and homework. I didn't know the term "cohesion" - I know when a group has it, but didn't know the term. Finally, I like the resource articles to look up and read later.

This is a good course for those new to the concept of LPAA and group therapy, but did not reach beyond basic principles. However, I realize there is only time for so much content to be presented. Perhaps a follow up presentation where more complex issues are discussed (e.g., managing group dynamics, counseling, handling outward signs of anxiety/depression, our overall scope of practice related to counseling/coping).

The philosophy of the model allowing recovery progression with continued gains across the post-stroke spectrum. Careful planning for cohesion in group structure. Structured/predictable sessions with improved communication in carry over. Concept allows naturalistic expansion within the structure. Respect for the individual's goal to continue improving, even incrementally.

I found the pace of the course slow and as a result the content was a bit "light on". On the positive side, it was very practical - the video examples of the group therapy was excellent and the therapeutic structure could be easily implemented by others.

Sometimes groups are seen as an accessory to the main aphasia tx. This approach uses the strengths of a group as the treatment; for ex., the group members have to interact with each other, take turns, etc. It is heartening to know that improvement can continue years after a CVA. Also, each presenters were knowledgeable but in addition, shared an enthusiasm and positive approach that I could see reflected in the videotapes.

The presenters did an excellent job clearly conveying the LPAA. I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the work this center does. I helped lead aphasia groups in grad school and would love to be a part of more in the future. This was an excellent refresher and reminder that the group is about its participants and your role is to help them create connectedness. I love that in this approach, the client determines their goals and they determine if they are satisfied with their progress. Success is defined by them.
